Radio host Colin Dunlap of 93.7 The Fan was firing from the hip and attempting to be humorous last week when he tweeted, “If the Pirates fired Clint Hurdle, they’ll find a manager. It’s Major League Baseball, not Yough High School.”

A harmless, off-the-cuff post to many, yes. But Yough wasn’t having it.

The school district responded to Dunlap and defended itself, albeit quite playfully. “Cougar Nation” clapped back with a letter and gifts.

Yough Superintendent Janet Sardon wrote: “I am certain you meant the tweet in an innocent way, without offense to Yough School District or Yough High School. Unfortunately, some people that follow you on Twitter and other community members within our district felt that your tweet was a slight on the District.”

Dunlap received a Yough baseball cap and T-shirt from the district.

“Some say any publicity is good publicity … thank you for the ‘shoutout,’ and best wishes with your talk show,” Sardon added. “Don’t forget to wear our apparel and support our students, they are the future of our world.”

And don’t forget the P.S. … “Next time we have coaching opening, you are welcome to apply. But mind you, the competition is stiff as we’ve recently won a State Championship and frequently make the WPIAL Playoffs.”

Dunlap, a former Fox Chapel athlete, tweeted the letter and a photo of himself wearing the Yough apparel along with, “Big thanks to Dr Janet Sardon from Yough.”

Responses to the interplay were positive on Twitter.
