FIBI Q and A: Tampa resident Mitchell White, who has family in Freeport
Mitchell White is no stranger to the Freeport International Baseball Invitational. He is a part of the fun for the fourth year.
Playing games here, he said, is a draw in itself, but being able to reunite each year with family — his grandparents live in Freeport — is extra special.
“It's a nice event to bring everyone together,” said White, 21, a Tampa, Fla., resident.
He is a part of the Tri-Con Roos team that has an international flair. Returning Australian Nick Leahy and Japanese player Yoshimiro “Yoshi” Yamahara are past teammates.
“Like the website says, the tournament is for the love of the game,” White said. “There aren't any trophies or awards at the end. But we are still pretty competitive.”
White, a student at Tampa, said he is using this year's tournament as part of his rehab process from a shoulder injury suffered at a college baseball camp.
He hopes to join the Spartans baseball team for the 2018 season.

The Tampa Bay Rays and (Rays) pitcher Chris Archer.

I'm a big “Anchorman” guy. I like Will Ferrell. It was his birthday the other day. I am looking forward to his new one (The House) where he runs a casino out of his basement.
What is your favorite TV show?
The Office. It's a classic
Favorite music and artist?
Hip-hop. Travis Scott.

I love the fried foods. Chicken tenders. Just ate fried mushrooms.
What is your favorite vacation spot?
Hawaii. That's definitely my spot. I'm a beach guy, coming from Florida.
Pepsi or Coke?
Coke, without a doubt. Cherry coke, too. Also, if it's not Heinz ketchup, it's not real ketchup.
Facebook or Twitter?
Twitter. Facebook is for family. Twitter is for getting news and staying on top of things in the world. I've gotten jobs through Twitter.

Chocolate mostly. If it's ice cream, it's a little bit of both.

Dog, absolutely. I have one at home, an 11-year-old cocker spaniel.
What is the worst chore to have to do at home?
I don't like folding laundry because it's radiating heat coming out of the dryer. It's hot and humid enough in Florida.
Do you play any sports other than baseball?
I played basketball in high school but just recreational now.
