Hannastown Golf Club duo have winning summer
It has been quite a summer for Greensburg's Dave DeNezza and Bob Allshouse.
The two Hannastown Golf Club members captured two big senior better-ball tournaments.
They won the Pennsylvania Golf Association's 22nd annual Senior Better-Ball Championship with a 36-hole score of 13-under par 131 in June at Nemacolin Woodlands Mystic Rock. They edged Joe Corsi of Hannastown and Stan Namola of Seven Oaks, who finished at 11-under 133.
The duo finished with 13 birdies and no bogeys at Mystic Rock.
Allshouse and DeNezza followed Aug. 18 by winning the Western Pennsylvania Golf Association's Senior Four-Ball Championship at Grove City Country Club. They shot a 36-hole total of 12-under 132. They won by four strokes against Corsi and John Jones of Lower Burrell.
Allshouse and DeNezza eagled No. 7 during both rounds, had nine birdies and one bogey.
“Bob played fantastic,” DeNezza said. “We had a great summer and winning the state event is one of the best tournaments. We beat a great field.”
Allshouse wouldn't take all the credit. He said DeNezza did his part.
“We played well as a team,” Allshouse said. “I did play some of my best golf. We were good partners.”
DeNezza said recording two eagles and 22 birdies during those tournaments was something.
“Dave was a real steady down the stretch in both tournaments,” Allshouse said. “It's always fun to play with Dave.”
