Nathan Smith has won the United State Golf Association’s Mid-Am four times.

But the Brookville native and Pittsburgh resident missed qualifying for the match play competition after finishing stroke play at 6-over par 148 at Carolina Golf Club and Charlotte Country Club in Charlotte, N.C. on Sunday. Smith won in 2003, 2009, 2010 and 2012.

Also missing the cut by a shot was McMurray native Chuck Nettles. Oakmont native Sean Knapp and Bethel Park’s Brett Young were also attempting to advance. Young finished 10-over and Knapp shot a 13-over.

Knapp was the 2017 USGA Senior Amateur champion and 2018 Senior Amateur runner-up.
