Four local gridders have been lauded by as “top offensive players” in Western Pennsylvania in 2014.

Two are seniors at Baldwin — quarterback Doug Altavilla and offensive lineman Sterling Jenkins.

The two others are Tyler Perone, a senior quarterback at Seton-La Salle, and Connor McWilliams, a senior quarterback at Brentwood.

Altavilla, a fourth-year starter, has thrown for 3,027 yards and 28 touchdowns in his career.

He connected on 134 of 254 passes for 1,705 yards and 21 touchdowns last season.

“I hope to improve my statistics from last season in all phases and become a better all-around quarterback,” said Altavilla, a fourth-year starter at the quarterback position. “I want to put my team in good situations at all times and win games.

“We have the same expectations as we had a season to go and that is to win a section championship. We understand, however, we simply have to win each day and stay consistent to reach our goal.”

Perone and McWilliams were first-year starters in 2013. Perone completed 169 of 284 passes for 2,322 yards with 24 touchdowns.

McWilliams connected on 113 of 218 throws for 1,745 yards and 14 touchdowns.

“Improvement from last year is my No. 1 goal,” McWilliams said. “I am also striving to throw for 2,000-plus yards and be consistent day-in and day-out.

“I’ve been working hard this offseason to get faster and stronger. I have also been doing a lot of drill work to be as smooth as possible in the pocket. I am going to take all of these things into the season.”
