Allegheny River giving up big catfish
• The Allegheny River has been giving up lots of fish recently, with flathead catfish in the 42-inch class reported in the last week. Most were being taken on live bluegills and suckers. Other anglers were getting walleyes up to about 28 inches and carp up to 38, according to a report from Lock 3 Bait and Tackle in Cheswick.
• Fishing pressure has been light at Kooser Lake, but fishermen were getting some small bass and the occasional sublegal pike.
• Anglers in boats have been taking some decent bluegills at Virgin Run lake, according to reports. Weeds have made it hard for shorebound anglers to fish, however.
• At Pymatuning Lake, anglers have been doing well on walleyes in 7 to 12 feet of water by drifting walleyes, according to multiple reports. Crappies have been hitting for those using a jig tipped with a minnow or minnows alone, and channel cats are being caught.
• Lake Arthur has been giving up walleyes and crappies to anglers fishing live bait while trolling or under a bobber, respectively. Hybrid stripers have been hard to come by, even for those fishing in boats, said Glendsa O'Donnell of O'Donnell's Sports Supplies in Portersville.
• At Lower Twin Lake, anglers have been picking up small- to average-sized bass on soft plastics and nightcrawlers. A few channel catfish also have been reported.
• The Monongahela River has been up and down with the weather, but is in good shape now, according to D.R. Plants of Shadlure in West Elizabeth. Fishermen have been getting good numbers of flatheads and channel cats, but big ones have been scarce. The largest reported lately weighed a little over 25 pounds, he said.
• At Lake Erie, walleye fishermen have been reporting catches in anything from 28 to 50 feet of water. Yellow perch have been hitting in 52 feet of water near the Walnut Creek access.
• Bridgeport Dam anglers able to cope with lots of weeds have been picking up some largemouth bass on soft plastics and nightcrawlers.
• Lake Wilhelm anglers have been taking walleyes using worm harnesses with orange blades and Hot 'N Tots. Largemouth bass have been hitting too.
• Cross Creek Lake has been giving up some panfish, according to reports.
• Shenango Dam anglers reported taking fair numbers of crappies in the past week, though varying water levels have been a challenge. Jigs and jigs tipped with live bait have been producing.
• Loyalhanna Dam has been giving up largemouth bass to those tossing rubber worms. A few panfish have been caught on trout magnets, jigs tipped with minnows and minnows under a bobber.
