• Ohiopyle State Park is offering a Wednesdays on the Water boating trip from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Wednesday. The event will guide participants in exploring the geological features of the lower Yough river. • Prince Gallitzin State Park will have an Intro to the Night Sky event from 7:30-8:15 p.m. Friday. Participants will meet at the Campground Amphitheater to learn interesting facts and stories about the night sky. Email princegallitzinsp@pa.gov or call 814-674-1000.
• Forbes State Forest will have a naturalist-led campfire program at 8 p.m. Friday. Participants are asked to meet at the Grove Run picnic area at Linn State Park. Call 724-238-6623.
• Laurel Hill State Park will have a Learn to Kayak event from 10 a.m.-noon Saturday. Participants will receive kayak instruction before going on a leisurely paddle on the Laurel Hill Lake. Registration is required. Email kipeck@pa.gov or call 814-352-8649.
• At Deer Lakes Park, there will be a Meteor Shower Hike from 7:30-10 p.m. Saturday. The 3-4 mile hike will coincide with the Perseids meteor shower and allows for some time to be spent stargazing. Cost is $12. Visit ventureoutdoors.org to register.
• Amateur Astronomers Association of Pittsburgh is opening the Mingo Observatory and the Wagman Observatory to the public Saturday and Sunday. Admission is free. Call the Mingo Observatory at 724-348-6150 or the Wagman Observatory at 724-224-2510 for more information.
• Venture Outdoors is having a Hard Cider Tasting Hike from 9 a.m.-noon Sunday in Lawrenceville. Participants will go on an informative three-mile hike through Lawrenceville before heading to Arsenal Cider House and Wine Cellar for a lesson on cider making and a private tasting. Each participant will receive a bottle of fresh hard cider. Participants must be 21 or older. The program costs $47. Visit ventureoutdoors.org to register.
• Moraine State Park will have a Full Moon Bat Paddle from 7:30-10 p.m. Aug. 17. Participants will explore Lake Arthur on kayaks during the full moon. Ages 12 and up must be accompanied by an adult. Kayak and gear is provided. Call 724-368-8811 to register.
• Point State Park will have a Summer Weekday Walk from 11 a.m.-noon Aug. 25. Participants will meet a park naturalist in front of the Fort Pitt Museum for an hour-long walk around the riverfront trails in downtown Pittsburgh. • Kooser State Park in Somerset County will have Hike with Hounds walks 6-7:30 p.m. Aug. 17 and 31. Participants will cover three to five miles and either can bring a dog or walk one provided by the Humane Society of Somerset County. Call 814-445-8673.
