Penguins add minor-league defenseman in trade with Columbus
The Pittsburgh Penguins acquired minor-league defenseman Blake Siebenaler from the Columbus Blue Jackets on Monday in exchange for a conditional draft pick.
Siebenaler, 22, was a third-round pick in the 2014 draft. The 6-foot-2, 207-pound right-handed shooter was known for his skating and puck-moving skills in junior hockey with the OHL’s Niagara IceDogs.
The offense hasn’t translated to the pros, as Siebenaler has recorded seven goals and 14 points in 83 career AHL games with Cleveland. After missing much of last season with a shoulder injury, he has one goal and one assist in 17 games this year.
He will report to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. He’s in the final year of his entry-level contract and will be a restricted free agent in July.
