The Red Wings' Robbie Russo defends on the Penguins' Teddy Blueger in the first period Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2017, at PPG Paints Arena.

The Pittsburgh Penguins recalled Teddy Blueger from their AHL affiliate on Tuesday, filling their void on their active roster after the Monday trade of defenseman Jamie Oleksiak with some forward depth.

The 24-year-old Blueger is fourth in the AHL with 21 goals in 45 games. Blueger has a five-game point streak with four goals and four assists in that time to give him 39 points on the season. The 6-foot, 195-pound center is a team-best plus-20 in his third season with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

Blueger has been part of the organization for almost six years, since he was a second-round pick in 2012. He has yet to appear in an NHL regular-season game.

Keep up with the Pittsburgh Penguins all season long .
