Penguins notebook: Fleury finds concussion recovery frustrating

Another round of questions for Marc-Andre Fleury, still recovering from a concussion suffered March 31, followed another practice in which the Penguins goaltender went through a full workout.

While he shared nothing new on his “day-to-day” status, Fleury on Friday explained his frustrations with the comeback process as he eyed Saturday's 3 p.m. game.

“It feels like it's been taking forever, but that's something with this injury, it's tough to play with,” Fleury said. “It's not like a bruise or a bad knee or something you can battle through. It's been frustrating, but it's making progress.”

The coaching staff continues to ask Fleury about how he's handling a variety of his positional duties.

“They've got to deal with traffic in front, tracking the puck, people in their crease, reaction time,” coach Mike Sullivan said of his goalies. “They give our medical staff feedback every day. And our medical staff makes the appropriate decisions for us as far as where we are with these guys and how we proceed.”

• Winger Bryan Rust remained cryptic about the state of his lower-body injury, which improved enough for him to participate in a full team practice for the first time since the start of April. “I'm just trying to get all of the movements back to normal, whether it's the turning or stopping,” Rust said.

• The Penguins devoted considerable practice time to their power play after they generated just five shots on goal during five power plays Wednesday. “I thought for the most part in Game 1, we struggled on the zone entry,” Sullivan said. “It boils down to zone time. When you have successful entries, you give your power play more time to make the plays that they need to make in order to get pucks to the net and scoring chances.”
