Plus-minus: Brian Dumoulin's two-way game helps anchor Penguins defense in Game 2 win
No game sheet is complete without plus-minus, a sometimes-misleading statistic that attempts to reflect a skater's two-way performance.
The Tribune-Review's version of plus-minus for the postseason also addresses two-play, albeit with more taken into account.
PLUS
Penguins F Jake Guentzel
A Conn Smythe campaign came to life with two goals that sparked the Penguins to their 4-1 win in Game 2. The ice also tilted in his team's favor (14 shot attempts for, 10 against) during five-on-five play, according to hockeystats.ca.
PLUS
Penguins G Matt Murray
He turned away 31 shots through two periods to frustrate the Predators during their dominant stretches. Murray finished with 37 stops.
PLUS
Penguins D Brian Dumoulin
No Penguins skater finished with more shots on goal than the defenseman, who tied Phil Kessel for the team high (four). Dumoulin also was on the ice for two goals for and none against.
EVEN
Penguins F Chris Kunitz
The veteran forward delivered his third straight multipoint performance with two assists, and he was on the ice for 10 Penguins five-on-five shot attempts and nine for Nashville. He took two penalties and did not register a shot attempt, though.
EVEN
Penguins F Evgeni Malkin
His only shot on goal found the back of the net. He also racked up nine penalty minutes and won just two of 10 faceoffs.
MINUS
Nashville G Pekka Rinne
Chased after allowing four goals on 25 shots faced, Rinne unraveled when the Predators simply needed him to keep the score close.
MINUS
Nashville F Cody McLeod
Six hits captured his most useful contribution to the game. He had two penalties and tallied just one shot attempt.
MINUS
Nashville D Mattias Ekholm
On the ice for 17 five-on-five shot attempts against, Ekholm did little to slow down the Penguins. He failed to generate much offensively, as he tallied just one shot on goal and three attempts.
