No game sheet is complete without plus-minus, a sometimes-misleading statistic that attempts to reflect a skater's two-way performance.
The Tribune-Review's version of plus-minus for the postseason also addresses two-play, albeit with more taken into account.
PLUS
Ottawa G Craig Anderson
Chased after one period in Game 5, Anderson turned around and delivered his highest save total (45) of the season in Ottawa's 2-1 win in Game 6.
PLUS
Ottawa D Fredrik Claesson
His dish to Mike Hoffman and net drive that screened Matt Murray both factored into the Senators' winning goal. Claesson also kept five-on-five action dull while on the ice to create a pace that favored Ottawa.
PLUS
Penguins F Evgeni Malkin
A dominant solo effort by Malkin produced the Penguins' only goal. He drove to the net and buried his own rebound. He also finished with a game-high seven shots on goal.
EVEN
Penguins D Ian Cole
He earned an assist and helped the Penguins dominate puck possession and dictate territory. With Cole out on the ice, the Penguins held a 23-8 edge in shot attempts and 12-5 shots on goal during five-on-five play, according to www.naturalstattrick.com. Cole took a penalty that set up Ottawa's five-on-three power-play goal, though.
EVEN
Ottawa F Mike Hoffman
The blistering slap shot delivered by Hoffman served as a highlight on an otherwise quiet night for the forward, who had two shots on goal and three attempts.
EVEN
Penguins G Matt Murray
Efficient and effective, Murray did enough to give his team a chance to win. A five-on-three penalty kill simply asked too much of him and the Penguins' short-handed specialists.
MINUS
Penguins D Ron Hainsey
He sat in the penalty box during Ottawa's first goal. He partially screened Matt Murray during the Senators' second tally. He also had modest possession numbers on a night when the Penguins largely controlled play.
MINUS
Ottawa D Dion Phaneuf
No Senators defenseman was on the ice for more five-on-five shots against (15). He struggled in his matchup assignment against Malkin.
