Orioles claim Pirates' Worley off waivers
The Pirates cut ties with pitcher Vance Worley, who on Tuesday was claimed off waivers by the Baltimore Orioles.
Worley, 28, last season went 4-6 with a 4.02 ERA in 23 outings. The right-hander spent most of the year as a long reliever after being beaten out by left Jeff Locke for the final starting rotation spot out of spring training.
Worley made $2.45 million this year and has three years of arbitration eligibility left. The Pirates designated him for assignment and opened a spot on their 40-man roster when Worley was claimed by the Orioles.
According to the Baltimore Sun, the Orioles plan to give Worley a shot as a starter during spring training. The Pirates will play the Orioles four times next spring in the Grapefruit League.
