Pirates' McCutchen laughs off pay stub leak

Pirates outfielder Andrew McCutchen reacted with laughter rather than anger Friday after a photo of one of his pay stubs turned up on the Internet.

A user on Reddit posted an image of McCutchen's pay stub from May 15 in which $427,098.49 went into his bank account through direct deposit. The photo included some personal information, including the last four digits of McCutchen's account.

The person who posted the photo claims the pay stub was found during a fan tour of the visiting clubhouse at Wrigley Field. The Pirates played a three-game series in Chicago last weekend.

McCutchen found out about the Internet post on Friday morning.

“My wife mentioned it to me. We laughed about it,” McCutchen said. “Am I mad? I don't like that my personal information is out there, but I guess next time I'll make sure I have all my stuff on me so no one can get hold of it.”

A team official gave McCutchen the pay stub in the clubhouse, which is standard procedure. McCutchen said he put the paper down and accidentally left it behind when the Pirates flew back to Pittsburgh.

“It's no big deal,” McCutchen said. “It's not like my routing number was on there so someone could hack into my account. I still got paid. That money's in my account. I'm happy. I ain't worried.”

McCutchen is in the middle of a six-year, $51.5 million contract. In addition to his bi-weekly salary, the pay stub detailed a long list of tax payments and other deductions.

“It's no surprise what I make,” McCutchen said. “It is a surprise, though, for people to see all those taxes that get taken out. Yeah, I bet they didn't know anything about that. Well, now you know.
