Pirates send 4 to minor league camp, including 2015 top draft choices
BRADENTON, Fla. — The Pirates resumed shaping their opening-day roster Thursday when they sent four players, including 2015 first- and second-round draft choices Kevin Newman and Kevin Kramer, to minor-league camp.
There are now 49 players in major league camp.
Newman, a top shortstop prospect, ended last season in Class AAA Indianapolis, where he hit .283 with only two errors in 40 games. Kramer, a second baseman, was hitting .297 with Class AA Altoona before he broke his hand and spent the rest of the regular season on the disabled list.
Alex McRae, a 10th-round choice in 2014, won 10 games in Altoona last year. Yeudy Garcia, an undrafted free agent, also pitched in Altoona, walking 46 batters in 72 innings.
