Kentucky's Bud Dupree tackles Ohio's Daz'mond Patterson on Sept. 6, 2014.
Dupree file

Player: Alvin “Bud” Dupree

Position: Outside linebacker

Height: 6-4

Weight: 264

Born: Macon, Georgia

College: Kentucky

Measurables: 4.56 40, 42-inch vertical leap.

Bio: Dupree is considered solid against the run, but has the ability to transition into pass coverage against tight ends. He had only 7 1⁄2 sacks in 2014, but his run-stopping ability was hard for the Steelers to ignore, considering they've struggled to stop the run the past two seasons. Dupree, who started 38 games, had 74 tackles — including 12 1⁄2 tackles for losses — against some of the SEC's best ground games. He doesn't possess the lateral movement of either third-year linebacker Jarvis Jones or the retired Jason Worilds and he lacks pure pass-rushing skills. Yet, the Steelers see a tremendous upside in a player who could both defend the run and pass. With Dupree, the Steelers have now selected a linebacker with their first pick three years in a row.
