The Steelers' Brandon Boykin defends a pass intended for the Broncos' Bennie Fowler in the second quarter of their AFC divisional playoff game Sunday, Jan. 17, 2016, in Denver.

The Panthers signed unrestricted free agent cornerback Brandon Boykin from the Steelers to a one-year contract.

Financial terms were not available Monday.

Boykin is expected to compete for the team’s nickel cornerback spot.

Boykin, 25, has played in all 64 games and started seven during his four seasons in the NFL, the first three with the Philadelphia Eagles and last year with the Steelers. He had 25 tackles in 2015, one sack, one interception and one forced fumble.

His best season was 2013 when he had a career-high 42 tackles and six interceptions for 136 yards, including a 76-yard return for a touchdown. He also had two forced fumbles that season and 16 pass breakups.

• A person familiar with the situation told the Associated Press free agent running back Arian Foster has agreed to meet Tuesday with the Dolphins. Foster is recovering from surgery to repair a torn Achilles tendon. The Texans released him this month after he missed 12 games last season because of injuries.

• Chiefs safety Husain Abdullah announced his retirement after seven seasons because of concussion concerns.

• Georgia governor Nathan Deal said he will veto House Bill 757, which would have allowed faith-based organizations to restrict jobs and services to Georgia’s LGBT community and pastors to not perform same-sex weddings. Had the bill passed, it would have put Atlanta’s 2019 Super Bowl bid in jeopardy.

• The Packers signed free-agent tight end Jared Cook. Last season with the Rams, Cook caught 39 passes for 481 yards.

• Former Rams defensive tackle Nick Fairley signed a one-year contract with the Saints, ESPN reported. Last year, he finished with 29 tackles, a half-sack and a fumble recovery in 15 games.
