Steelers' 2nd-round pick Davis agrees to 4-year deal
Four down and three to go for the Steelers when it comes down to signing their 2016 draft class.
The Steelers came to terms with second-round pick safety Sean Davis on a four-year deal Friday.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but the NFL's salary slotting system will put Davis' contract about $4 million total, including a signing bonus of a little more than $1 million.
Davis is the fourth rookie player to have signed before the start of organized team activities, set to begin Tuesday at UPMC Rooney Sports Complex.
Davis started 40 games for Maryland and had 70 solo tackles as a senior cornerback. As a sophomore at safety, Davis accumulated 102 tackles. Over his four seasons with the Terrapins, he totaled 319 tackles — 10 for loss — 2½ sacks and five interceptions.
Davis will have a shot to garner playing time as a rookie even though the Steelers thought enough of Robert Golden to sign him to a three-year free agent deal in March and still hope former fourth-round pick Shamarko Thomas can work out problems that have troubled him in the past.
Davis' signing leaves Artie Burns (first round), Javon Hargrave (third round) and Jerald Hawkins (fourth round) still left unsigned.
