Steelers, Vikings to meet in Hall of Fame game

Steelers, Vikings to meet in HOF game

Jerome Bettis' Pro Football Hall of Fame induction celebration has been extended by a day.

The NFL announced Wednesday that the Steelers will play the Minnesota Vikings in the Hall of Fame game at 8 p.m. Aug. 9 at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton.

Bettis, the Steelers' No. 2 all-time leading rusher, will be enshrined into the Hall of Fame on Aug. 8.

It will be a record sixth time the Steelers have played in the game (1963, 1964, 1983, 1998, 2007) and first since Mike Tomlin's rookie year. The Steelers are 3-2 in the game, including a 20-7 win over the New Orleans Saints in their most recent appearance.

The Vikings will be the home team.

The Steelers last played the Vikings during the regular season in London in 2013.

The Steelers will play five preseason games and report to training camp a week earlier than the rest of the league. The Steelers' remaining preseason schedule will be released at a later time.

Bettis spent 10 seasons with the Steelers before retiring after the 2005 season. He amassed 13,662 rushing yards (sixth-most in NFL history) and 91 touchdowns (10th-most).
