Waynesburg’s Jake Evans sets NCAA wrestling wins record

Doug Gulasy

Jake Evans did more than just win his fourth Presidents’ Athletic Conference wrestling championship — he made some NCAA history in the process.

Evans, a senior heavyweight and Elizabeth Forward graduate, set the new NCAA all-divisions win record when he pinned Washington and Jefferson’s Jake Walker in the championship final at Thiel on Friday.

The win gave Evans, the top-ranked heavyweight in NCAA Division III, 175 for his career. He won an NCAA championship last season.

Evans’ pin also won the conference team championship for Waynesburg, the program’s third in a row. He was named the Outstanding Wrestler at the tournament for the second time.
