Wiltrout heads to NCAA nationals

North Carolina redshirt freshman Madison Wiltrout has qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on June 5-8 at the University of Texas.

The Connellsville native and four-time WPIAL and PIAA Class AAA javelin champion qualified by finishing fifth at the Eastern Preliminary Round at North Florida in Jacksonville on May23 with a throw if 169 feet, 7 inches.

North Carolina coach Harlis Meaders said: “I’m so excited for Madison to make her first NCAA appearance after winning the ACC Championship in the javelin.”

Wiltrout holds the school record at North Carolina after throwing 182-5 to win the women’s javelin ACC title earlier this season.

Wiltrout owns the high school national record of 185-8, which she set her sophomore season at Norwin. She also owns the PIAA Championship record of 182-8.

She has battled an elbow injury which occurred her sophomore season at the state finals.
