MEMPHIS, Tenn. — WVU coach Dana Holgorsen said one problem for his team was too many field goals. It has been a problem for much of the season, but at least Josh Lambert is in the record books. Three field goals by the Mountaineers’ sophomore kicker gave him 30 for the season, one short of the NCAA record. Lambert broke the WVU record for field goals in a season, eclipsing Paul Woodside. He also tied an NCAA record with at least two field goals in 10 games and set an NCAA record with 39 attempts. Holgorsen would rather have touchdowns. “I don’t know how many field goals we attempted, but too many stalled drives,” he said. “You play a game where you have to score 46 points to win it, you can’t settle for that many field goals. … The biggest thing is we didn’t score enough points. Moved the ball well but didn’t score enough points.”

• On a video that went viral, a Texas A&M student assistant was seen throwing elbows at Daryl Worley and Andrew Buie when they went out of bounds in front of the Aggies bench. He was identified as Mike Richardson, a former linebacker at the school. A&M coach Kevin Sumlin not only kicked Richardson out of the stadium, he sent him home after learning of what happened. “I was made aware of the situation at halftime,” Sumlin said. “That’s nothing that we condone. There’s nothing about that whole situation that’s a part of who we are and what we believe in.”

• The 133 yards by A&M running back Tra Carson was the first 100-yard rushing game by an Aggie since Johnny Manziel ran for 124 yards in October 2013 against Ole Miss. “We weren’t getting off our blocks,” Holgorsen said. “We were stuck on blocks like I haven’t seen for some time. Our D-Line was terrible.”

• A&M freshman quarterback Kyle Allen was the first player in the 56-year history of the Liberty Bowl to account for five touchdowns — four passing and one running.
