The Allegheny County Health Department has closed a Subway restaurant in the North Side for using water without boiling it.

The Subway on Ohio Street in Pittsburgh's East Allegheny neighborhood was using the water to wash hands and dishes and for the soda/ice machine without boiling it, according to a county report.

A flush-and-boil order is in effect for roughly 18,000 homes and businesses that are Pittsburgh Water & Sewer Authority customers on Pittsburgh's North Side, as well as Reserve and Millvale.

When a county inspector called the facility Tuesday morning, an employee told the inspector to call back later, the report said.

The facility does not have a means to boil large quantities of water for dishes and hand washing, the report said.

A phone call to the restaurant Wednesday went unanswered.
