Autumn Turk will be the new assistant principal at Burrell's Huston Middle School.
A former intensive support teacher at Burrell, she spent the past school year as assistant principal at Pine-Richland's Eden Hall Elementary School.
A Highlands High School graduate, Turk will be paid $84,000. She will begin her duties on Sept. 6.
“I believe in a student-centered approach — what's best for the students,” Turk said. “I look forward to working with the students and the faculty. I believe as both a mom and an administrator, I have a unique gift.”
Turk started her career as an educator as a first-grade teacher at Highlands in 2005. She lives in Lower Burrell.
The middle school houses students in grades 6 through 8.
Also hired by the school board Tuesday night were:
• Sara Huth, as middle school intensive support teacher, at $42,880 per year.
• Krista Marino, as middle school math/special education teacher, at $43,600.
• Meaghan Volek, as high school math teacher, at $48,800.
• Casey Bull, high school health and physical education teacher, at $46,700.
The school board also accepted the resignation of licensed practical nurse Adrienne Harris and appointed Brooke Schultz at a rate of $17 per hour.
“I think our administrators did an extremely thorough job in interviewing candidates,” said school board President Tricia Shank.
