Illinois authorities are investigating a fracas at a Peoria nightclub that left one man with a gunshot wound and may have involved rap star Ja Rule.

Rule, who had just finished performing at the Peoria Civic Center, and his entourage were attending a party at Club Ignition when someone reportedly doused him with a drink, MTV.com reported Thursday.

A fight broke out and at least one shot was fired, striking Peoria resident Marshall Payton in the left hip. He was taken to Saint Francis Medical Center and treated.

The incident remains under investigation. A spokesperson for Rule could not be reached for comment.
