A famous painting stolen from a private owner in Argentina has been returned to the Argentine government after eight years.

The post-impressionist painting "Corrida de Torros," painted by Pedro Figari, was taken from the home of Santiago Luis Sanchez Elia in 1997.

The painting of a bullfighter was sold at auction in Uruguay before making its way to Christie's auction house in New York, La Nacion newspaper reported Tuesday.

Authorities still don't know who stole the painting.
