The Washington Wild Things game against the Traverse City Beach Bums was suspended in the middle of the second inning because of rain with the Beach Bums leading, 2-1. The game will be completed when the Wild Things travel to Traverse city for a three-game series July 26-28. The Wild Things begin a three-game series against the Evansville Otters tonight.

In Phoenix, Cappie Pondexter hit a 3-pointer with 5.8 seconds left and then stole the inbound pass to lift the Phoenix Mercury past the Minnesota Lynx yesterday, 81-78. The Mercury overcame the poor shooting of its top two scorers -- Diana Taurasi (4 for 16) and Pondexter (5 for 14) -- to win for the sixth time in the last nine outings. Taurasi was limited by foul trouble, and Pondexter picked up her fifth with 6:41 to play.

Wrestling
Pitt-Johnstown has signed 15 recruits for the 2006-07 season, including 2006 Class AAA Pennsylvania state runner-up at heavyweight, Chris Dempsey (Ambridge). UPJ also added six other state place winners to this upcoming season's roster.
