In Chicago, where gun homicides are outpacing last year's shootings, the continuous clamor for more gun control falls flat in one of the most controlled cities in the nation.
At last count, there have been more than 2,700 shootings in Chicago, resulting in at least 440 deaths — an increase of approximately 400 shootings over the same period last year, based on figures compiled by the Chicago Tribune.
So naturally President Obama and like-minded liberals everywhere are stamping their feet for more restrictions when existing measures are ineffectual.
Consider, for example, Cook County's “violence tax” at gun stores. One year after the April 2013 levy went into effect on each gun and bullet sold, the Chicago Trib reported 434 deaths, an increase of 19 deaths over 2013, writes AWR Hawkins for Breitbart.
Yet Seattle went ahead an adopted a similar tax this year.
And while Mr. Obama, Hillary Clinton and other gun grabbers insist on more gun laws, they turn a collective blind eye to beefing up enforcement of existing laws, says NRA CEO Wayne LaPierre. In Chicago, in particular, most criminals convicted of gun crimes serve less than half their sentences, according to a Washington Examiner report.
The reality is gangbangers and desperate criminals don't obey gun laws — in Chicago or anywhere else.
