The director of information and technology for the North Allegheny School District recently was selected as the 2019 Chief Technology Officer of the Year by a statewide technology association.
Richard Platts, who joined the district in n January 2017, received the honor by the Pennsylvania Association for Educational Communications and Technology during the organizations yearly expo and conference in Hershey.
“It is a great honor to be recognized by my colleagues throughout the state for the hard work that we are undertaking at North Allegheny, and in the Pittsburgh region as we leverage technology to support modern learning experiences for our students,” Platts said.
The technology association presents the annual award educators who are considered “pioneers and champion of the uses of technology in K-12 education through leadership, community building, innovative use of technology, creation of partnerships and impact on learning,” according to the organization.
Platts was nominated by his peers in recognition of district, regional and national leadership in the field of technology and innovation.
Platts was also recognized for his enacting the district’s vision for modern learning environments.
“Mr. Platts continues to seek the best practices to implement for our students and teachers in this fast-paced and rapidly evolving world of technology,” said district Superintendent Robert Scherrer. “His efforts have created endless opportunities in the learning environment and have undoubtedly helped in driving the advancement of technology impacting the learning environment at NA in the best way possible.”
